Some exciting players were picked in the local players draft of the Major League Cricket (MLC). Agni Chopra and Jasdeep Singh got a lot of attention.
Teams carefully choose players to make their teams stronger for the next season, just like cricket fans look for reliable platforms such as Bet Pro Exchange login to stay updated with the latest matches and trends.
MI New York picked Agni Chopra as the first Player in the draft. Agni is the son of famous Bollywood director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The team paid $50,000 to get him.
The opening batter, who is 26 years old, became famous in India after getting four hundred in four games during the 2023–24 Ranji season. During Mizoram's 2024–25 season, he kept up his good play, scoring 1,804 runs at a fantastic average of 94.94.
Chopra could play as a local player because he was born in Detroit, Michigan, and is a citizen of the United States. However, the BCCI's rule that players with foreign passports are not allowed to play in the Ranji Trophy affected his decision to move to the USA.
When the draft was over, Jasdeep Singh was the biggest winner. The Seattle Orcas paid $75,000 to get the 32-year-old fast bowler as the first pick in the draft.
Singh’s path has had many ups and downs. He made a strong comeback as a replacement player for Washington Freedom after not being picked up in the draft in 2024.
This year, he was a top pick because of how well he played in the tournament and won two Player of the Match awards in a row.
The Texas Super Kings made a big move when they paid $75,000 to sign all-rounder Shubham Ranjane. Ranjane was expected to get a lot of bids because he is known for hitting hard and bowling bright seam.
For an extra $15,000, the Super Kings also picked up young left-arm seamer Stephen Wiig. Wiig has always done well in Minor League Cricket for the past four years.
For this draft, the Seattle Orcas focused on getting experience. Sujit Nayak, 35, was their first choice, and they paid $40,000 to sign him.
Before coming to the USA, Nayak played for the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Daredevils.
The team also added depth to its group by signing Steven Taylor ($25,000) and Shayan Jahangir ($20,000), both of whom are currently playing for the USA.
MI New York signed many important people, including Agni Chopra. Tajinder Singh Dhillon cost $50,000, and Sharad Lumba cost $15,000.
Both played for Mumbai Indians in 2018. The team also spent $20,000 on the powerful left-handed hitter Kunwarjit Singh, well-known in T20 leagues across the United States.
Several teams made smart moves to make their teams stronger:
Los Angeles Knight Riders chose left-arm spinner Kartik Gattepalli for $15,000 with their available money.
Abhishek Paradkar, a left-arm seamstress, was chosen by Washington Freedom for $10,000.
Late in the game, the San Francisco Unicorns paid $10,000 to sign Hammad Azam, who used to play for Pakistan.
Some young players who showed promise were given rookie contracts based on their performance in local cricket.
Seattle Orcas signed Rahul Jariwala, a good wicketkeeper and hitter from the Bay Area. He last played for the USA in 2022 when he was 18 years old.
The Texas Super Kings chose Adam Khan, a leg-spinner.
The San Francisco Unicorns signed Achilles Browne.
Some well-known players were not chosen, even though they had been playing well lately. For example, Shehan Jayasuriya, a former Sri Lankan international, was surprisingly not picked.
John Campbell, who used to be an opener for the West Indies and just became an American citizen, was also not picked.
During the MLC local players draft, teams made wise choices to strengthen their teams. The most exciting things were Agni Chopra’s return to USA cricket and Jasdeep Singh’s fantastic recovery. Fans can’t wait to see how these players do for their teams as the season progresses.
