The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is the largest teachers' trade union in Kenya, established on December 4, 1957. Its primary aim is to advocate for the rights and welfare of teachers, address grievances related to salaries, working conditions, and professional interests, and promote educational development in the country.

KNUT has a significant history, including its first strike in 1963, which occurred shortly before Kenya's independence. The union has been involved in various strikes and negotiations to improve teachers' conditions, such as demanding salary increases and better employment terms. Recently, KNUT has been active in addressing issues like the promotion of teachers, employment of new teachers, and the implementation of collective bargaining agreements with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) .

The current Secretary General is Collins Oyuu, who succeeded Wilson Sossion in 2021. Under his leadership, KNUT has been pushing for significant reforms and has recently withdrawn a planned strike, citing ongoing discussions with the government regarding teachers' demands
