Nana Aang Pree the First, who became king of the Asante Kingdom in March 1888, faced relentless opposition from the British Empire. The British, eager to control the Asante Kingdom, used divide-and-rule tactics to incite conflict among Asante chiefs, turning factions and tribes against each other. Despite his efforts to unite and lead his people, Pree was betrayed, captured, and exiled to Sel's Island along with over 50 royals. His descendants remain in exile to this day. This tragic story exemplifies the broader colonial strategy of destabilizing African nations by exploiting internal divisions, a tactic common during the Scramble for Africa.
