Unuk, a young man from a poor village, is raised by his grandmother, Mama, who is a respected herbalist. As Mama becomes bedridden, Unuk struggles to support them both with dwindling income from herbal remedies and hard labor. When a friend suggests moving to the city for better opportunities, Unuk takes the leap, despite the challenges of city life.

In the city, Unuk finds work as a cleaner in a large company owned by Mr. Johnson. There, he meets Mr. Johnson's daughter, Obianuju, who is kind and charitable. Despite their different social standings, Unuk is deeply moved by her warmth and kindness, developing strong feelings for her. His friends warn him against pursuing a relationship with her due to their disparity in status, but Unuk cannot help but admire and dream of her.
