In the city of Berah, a young, handsome, and intelligent man named Epi had to drop out of school due to his family's poverty. He became an apprentice to Chief Okafo, a wealthy importer and exporter, who promised Epi a significant amount of money to start his own business after eight years of work. Epi's honesty made him disliked by his peers, who eventually framed him for theft. Despite his pleas of innocence, Chief Okafo fired him, and Epi was left homeless.

Epi started selling plantains on the streets of Berah, where he struggled initially but eventually made enough to pay back a loan he received from a fellow vendor. One day, he encountered Aminat, a woman who mistakenly transferred him 50,000 naira instead of 5,000. Epi chose to return the excess money despite being advised to keep it. Impressed by his honesty, Aminat took Epi out for a meal, learned about his struggles, and was attracted to him.

Aminat helped Epi by renting an apartment for him and setting up a kiosk for his plantain business, significantly improving his life. Their relationship grew, and Aminat expressed her love for Epi, though he did not feel the same way. Despite this, Epi appreciated Aminat’s support and began to build a better life, sending money home to his family.
