"Saging" is a chilling Tagalog horror animation set in a small farming village surrounded by banana plantations. The story follows Rita, a young girl who lives with her grandmother, Lola Nita, on their banana farm. One day, the villagers notice that something is wrong with the bananas—some grow unusually large, while others have strange marks that resemble faces. As people begin to harvest and eat the bananas, odd and terrifying events start to occur. Villagers become sick, experience hallucinations, or go missing after consuming the fruit.
Rita soon discovers that the bananas are cursed, tied to an ancient myth about a tikbalang who haunts the plantation. The spirit was angered years ago when the land was taken from the forest, and now it’s seeking revenge by possessing the banana crops. As more villagers fall victim to the curse, Rita must find a way to break the spell before the entire village is consumed by the supernatural force.
With the help of her Lola, who knows the old stories and protective rituals, Rita embarks on a dangerous journey to confront the tikbalang and save her community. In the process, she uncovers dark secrets about the village’s past and the true cost of disturbing the land.
"Saging" is a haunting blend of folklore and horror, combining the eerie everyday presence of the banana trees with the lurking danger of a malevolent spirit. The animation highlights the importance of respecting nature and the supernatural, with suspenseful scenes and terrifying visuals that explore the consequences of angering forces beyond human control.
