Emily, a highly competitive student determined to become valedictorian, discovers that Julie is slightly ahead of her in grades. Obsessed with the title, Emily begins sabotaging Julie’s academic performance. She switches Julie’s test answers, hides her PE clothes, and even submits a plagiarized paper under Julie’s name to get her disqualified. While Emily's plan initially works, Julie exposes her during the valedictorian speech ceremony, revealing all the evidence of her sabotage. Emily loses her Princeton acceptance, and although the rivalry between the two remains, they part ways with an understanding of each other's pressures and competitiveness, hinting at a future rematch in law school.
