"Akyat Ligaw" is a Tagalog horror animation based on a true story about a young woman named Maya, who becomes the target of an aswang while navigating the challenges of love and relationships. The story begins as Maya, an attractive and vibrant young woman, starts receiving attention from suitors in her village. Among them is a charming man who seems perfect at first but soon reveals unsettling traits.
As Maya spends more time with him, she starts to notice strange occurrences—animals around her home go missing, and she experiences nightmarish visions. The locals whisper about an aswang that preys on young women, and Maya grows increasingly uneasy. Her friends encourage her to be cautious, but she is torn between her feelings and the warnings.
When her health declines, Maya consults a local albularyo (healer), who uncovers the truth: her suitor is actually an aswang using his charm to manipulate her. With this revelation, Maya must confront the aswang and protect herself before it's too late.
The animation culminates in a tense showdown where Maya uses the knowledge from the albularyo to fend off the creature, reclaiming her life and independence.
"Akyat Ligaw" explores themes of love, deception, and the dangers of ignoring the supernatural, highlighting the cultural significance of aswang legends in Filipino folklore.
