The story follows Dave Lizewski, an ordinary teenager who feels invisible at his high school. His only friends are Todd and Marty, and he harbors a crush on his classmate, Katie Deauxma. Despite being an avid comic book reader, Dave finds that his life remains unchanged even after the tragic death of his mother from an aneurysm.
