In the year 2074, global warming has ravaged the planet, leading to the collapse of governments and the rise of multinational corporations that now control most of the world. These corporations are in a constant state of covert warfare to dominate the remaining natural resources. The affluent live in safe, well-maintained green zones, while the impoverished are left to survive in perilous, crime-ridden red zones.

The story follows Ben, who enjoys a luxurious lifestyle in the green zone. He is married to Laura, a plastic surgeon, and works for Spiga, a major corporation run by Laura’s mother, Elizabeth. One morning, as Ben and Laura have a rare breakfast of real bacon, they learn that terrorists have attacked Spiga’s Jakarta branch, resulting in numerous casualties.
