The story opens with a chilling note about the US government's atomic experiments in the New Mexico desert from 1945 to 1962, and their denial of the radiation's genetic effects. The scene then shifts to a desert where a group of scientists in hazmat suits encounter a bloodied man pleading for help. Before they can react, a mutant named Pluto attacks, kills the scientists, and chains their bodies to his truck before driving off.
