The movie begins in 1972 during the Vietnam War, with an American soldier, Nick Parker, surviving a helicopter crash but losing his eyesight. He is captured by locals and taken to a Vietnamese village, where he is cared for and trained in combat skills. Over the years, he hones his other senses, especially hearing, to navigate his surroundings and defend himself.
