The story follows Kevin Garner, an investment banker who loses his job, stocks, and assets when his bank collapses. Distraught, he meets Molly at a bar, where she reveals she’s there on a dare. Despite the initial awkwardness, they bond and start dating. Fast forward several years, and their marriage is strained due to the disappearance of their son. Molly has turned to alcoholism, and Kevin is unhappy in a desk job where he’s bullied by his boss. After a tense interaction with his boss, Kevin gets a call from Molly, who is upset over his forgetting to pay the bills.
