The story follows two college students, Damien and Jacob, as they prepare to submit their entries for a prestigious writing contest. Damien feels pressure to write something meaningful, especially after the recent loss of his mother. While brainstorming, Jacob suggests he write about his mom, despite his initial reluctance. They both experience writer’s block but eventually complete their papers.

Damien wins the contest, and during his interview, he mistakenly claims credit for a story he didn’t write—Jacob's piece about his mother. This revelation leads to conflict between the two friends, with Jacob confronting Damien about the betrayal. As the story unfolds, it turns out that Damien’s mother is alive, and he had stolen Jacob’s work. 

In the end, after the truth is revealed, Jacob is offered a contract by the contest organizers, while Damien is on the run after cashing in on the prize money he didn’t earn. The narrative explores themes of integrity, friendship, and the consequences of dishonesty.
