The movie begins in the vast multiplayer online game Free City, where we meet Guy, an NPC who follows a mundane daily routine. He longs for his dream girl and believes he leads a perfect life, despite the chaos around him. One day, after a robbery at his bank, he sees a mysterious character called Molotov girl and realizes she's the one he's been dreaming of, but he gets run over by a train while trying to approach her.

In the real world, Millie is trying to gather evidence to sue the game's publisher, Soonami Studios, for stealing her original game concept. Meanwhile, Guy begins to awaken to his reality and, after some chaotic events, discovers a new perspective of Free City through stolen sunglasses. He starts to break from his scripted existence and becomes a media sensation by saving NPCs from players.

As Guy's consciousness grows, he teams up with Millie (as Molotov girl) to uncover the truth behind Free City and its connections to their original game. After a series of adventures, they realize that the game is about to be erased and that Guy is a product of their AI work. With Millie's help, Guy rallies the NPCs to gain autonomy.

Antwan, the CEO of Soonami, attempts to erase Guy but fails when Guy proves to be self-aware. Ultimately, they confront Antwan, who gets arrested for his actions, and Millie and Keys create a new game, Free Life, where NPCs live freely. The film ends with Guy supporting Millie's choices, acknowledging that his love for her was programmed, and Millie realizing Keys has feelings for her, leading to a budding romance.
