The movie begins at a port in Asia, where a seafood vendor named Papasan is shopping for fresh fish. He hears a baby's cries coming from a wooden treasure box on a fishing boat and discovers a foreign baby boy inside, who has washed ashore. Moved by the situation, Papasan adopts the child and names him Ikki. The story then fast-forwards 16 years, revealing Ikki as a teenager.
