In 1947, Father McMurty delivers a sermon at his church and bids farewell to a parishioner before heading to his quarters. Unbeknownst to him, a young man named Edmund Tolleson is watching him closely. Later, during dinner with fellow priests, they discuss plans to go to a movie, but Father McMurty pretends to be ill and stays behind. Once alone, he locks his door and pulls out a lingerie magazine to indulge in private.
