The story opens with two men surveying an area of the Apalachicola National Forest in Leon County, Florida. While mapping a specific section, one of the surveyors gets his device stuck in the ground and discovers traces of blood, leaving him confused. Moments later, he spots an entity with glowing red eyes. In a panic, he attempts to flee, but the creature catches and kills him.
