The sun is an immense, renewable energy source, providing more energy in a day than humanity uses in a year. Despite its vast potential, we are only beginning to harness solar power effectively. Two main solar energy technologies exist: photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power. Photovoltaic systems, which convert sunlight directly into electricity, are more cost-effective and widely used. Currently, only 2% of the world's electricity comes from solar power, with 90% of that generated by PV systems, primarily using crystalline silicon. Solar technology, particularly photovoltaic systems, is crucial in the shift toward renewable energy.
