Philip Miller is a survivor of an extinction-level event, feeling isolated as he searches for other people. He drives across the country, announcing his presence with a loudspeaker, but finds no other survivors. To reach out, he paints a message on several billboards, hoping others will find him. Returning to Tucson, he moves into a mansion filled with items from all 50 states, attempting to find happiness in material wealth. As time passes, he descends into madness, creating personalities for balls he collects and even hitting on a mannequin, highlighting his loneliness and desperation for connection.
