In this story, Charlotte Lockton and her husband, David, live on a vast farm estate in New Zealand after David struck it rich. A progressive man, David employs those in need and is deeply devoted to Charlotte, who is expecting their first child. He teaches her to use a rifle for their life in the wild, but Charlotte, embodying the delicate nature of an English Rose, confesses to her maid Betty that she despises guns. Despite the cultural differences in New Zealand, Charlotte is committed to adapting for the sake of her husband and their future. She expresses concern about the potential loss of farmhands after renovations are complete, but her worries soon give way to happiness as she embraces her life with David.
