In a world ravaged by an alien invasion from a race known as the Mimics, Major William Cage, a media relations officer, finds himself unwillingly thrust into the fight as the UDF (Unified Defense Force) prepares for a critical counter-attack, Operation Downfall. Initially dismissed as just a public face, Cage is knocked out and wakes up in the Heathrow base, only to discover he has been labeled a deserter.
