In 2122, spaceship Nostromo carrying mineral ore back to Earth with a crew of seven and a cat is awakened by Mother, the computer. They discover they're off course in an unknown system. Mother intercepted a repeating acoustic transmission, prompting the crew to investigate. Despite complaints, they follow the signal to a hostile planet where they find a mysterious spacecraft with alien remains. Kane is attacked by a creature that attaches to his face, leading to a series of events culminating in the crew attempting to remove the alien. Ripley distrusts Ash, the science officer, who wants to study the alien. The crew heads back to Earth after repairs, with tensions mounting over what to do with the creature. Ripley expresses her concerns to Dallas about Ash, as they continue their journey home, unsure of what lies ahead.
