After living with her aunt for five years, orphan girl Heidi is taken to the Swiss Alps to live with her grandfather, despite warnings about him being antisocial. Her aunt leaves Heidi behind, but she decides to stay with her stubborn grandfather, who eventually takes her in and cares for her. The priest confirms Heidi's good health and encourages her grandfather to take care of her, despite his initial reluctance.
