In a tranquil area of Danvers, Ukraine, Mykola lives with his pregnant wife Nastya, known as the pioneering ecosettlers. Nastya, an artist, enjoys woodcarving and made Mykola a protective amulet. Mykola, a mathematician, physicist, and ecologist, bikes to teach at a local school. The peace sign on their home is the "paw of the white raven," from a legend of compassion. With no electronics, news reaches them only when Mykola goes to work. Learning of protests and potential invasion, Mykola faces challenges from a disrespectful student but remains committed to pacifism and youth guidance.
