In the 2016 film "The Day Will Come," brothers Erik and Elmer Johansen are placed in Orphanage Godhavn after getting caught stealing. Their mother, Moren, is unable to care for them due to work and is later diagnosed with cancer. Despite their uncle's attempt to gain custody, Child Welfare sends the boys to the orphanage. At Godhavn, they are subjected to strict rules, including silent meals and physical punishment. As a new teacher, Lilian Hammershøj learns that corporal punishment is still used, despite being banned by law. The film explores the challenges the brothers face in the harsh orphanage environment.
