In Beirut, 12-year-old Zain and an undocumented Ethiopian woman named Tigest are arrested. Zain is in court for stabbing a man, but he surprises everyone by wanting to sue his parents for giving him life. He describes his life in the Beirut slums, helping his family with illegal activities to make money. Zain also works as a delivery boy for Assad, the family's landlord. Despite difficult circumstances, Zain tries to protect his sister Sahar from harm.
