The movie begins with Jerry Lane, a retired UN employee, making pancakes for his daughters, Rachel and Constance. When their family outing in Philadelphia is interrupted by a traffic jam, they discover a global rabies outbreak causing chaos. After escaping dangerous situations with multiple zombies, they receive a promise of helicopter rescue from a UN official. Jerry's daughter Rachel suffers an asthma attack, leading them on a quest for medication. Despite facing threats, they find temporary refuge with a Mexican family before attempting a rooftop rescue, fighting off zombies along the way. Despite challenges, they continue their journey to safety.
