The movie begins with Army Ranger Jackson Briggs waking up to a ringing sound. He struggles to take pills for his condition and later works at a fast food restaurant. Despite being deemed unfit for a war zone due to a history of brain injuries, Jackson insists on an assignment in Pakistan. He learns about the passing of a fellow soldier and attends a gathering in his honor. Jackson faces obstacles at the military division but finally gains entry with Captain Jones's help. Jackson expresses gratitude to Jones and inquires about an interview, but Jones is focused on their upcoming assignment.
