Middle-aged man Jim Powell, a police artist, is dissatisfied with his family and profession. His wife Stephanie works hard for Global Tech on plant research. Their teens, Daphne and JJ, are distant, focused on their phones. Jim decides on a family trip to Brazil, but a storm forces their plane down over the ocean, shimmering with neon particles. Luckily, his family survives, but their pilot does not. Back home, life resumes until Jim discovers he can catch bullets and Stephanie realizes she has super speed. They test their abilities, shocked by their newfound powers.
