The movie opens with a bus transporting multiple prisoners to Arkansas State Wakefield prison. Among them is Henry Brubaker, who is introduced as the main character. Upon arrival, new prisoners undergo procedures like shaving their heads and receiving new clothes. It is revealed that convicts must pay for haircuts based on their preference. Richer prisoners receive better treatment, including food and activities, while poorer ones struggle with bad food. Corruption and abuse of power are evident when a brutal display of torture occurs. Henry eventually reveals himself as the new Warden, seeking to make changes within the prison system.
