The film begins with Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant 12-year-old who loves reading and math. Her parents do not appreciate her intelligence and mistreat her. Despite this, she continues to learn from books. When offered a chance to study by Miss Honey, she accepts, even though her parents disapprove. Matilda bravely faces challenges at Crunchem Hall School, where she befriends Miss Honey and stands up against the cruel headmistress, Mrs. Trunchbull.
