The movie begins with Mike and Johanna enjoying romantic time together at home. Mike, a novelist, asks for Johanna's help finishing his book. They become intimate. Later, Mike is signing autographs at a bookstore when Johanna is hit by a truck and dies. Devastated, Mike agrees to write a new book with encouragement from his manager. He learns Johanna was pregnant and questions paternity due to low sperm count. After moving to their lakeside property, Mike experiences strange occurrences that make him believe Johanna is watching over him. Letters moving by themselves and a mysterious scream add to the eerie atmosphere, leaving Mike unsettled yet comforted by Johanna's presence.
