How to stay motivated and not get held back by the fear of failure? Like many want-to-be small business owners... I have so many ideas for my niche that I want to put to work, but the fear of failure holds me back 😓 To the point where I just cannot get started at all... And yup, you'll never get to where you want to be if you never make the first step, but how the hell do you ignore that fear and do it anyway? Aside from 'just do it!' Do you have some great advice that helped you to get and to stay motivated and just go for it with your ideas?

Overcoming the fear of failure and staying motivated to pursue your ideas can be challenging, but it is definitely possible. Here are some strategies that can help you push past your fear and take that first step towards starting your small business:

  1. Embrace a growth mindset: Understand that failure is a natural part of the learning process. Instead of viewing failure as a setback, see it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. Embracing a growth mindset allows you to reframe failure as a stepping stone towards success.

  2. Break it down: Sometimes the fear of failure stems from feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of starting a business. Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This way, you can focus on one step at a time, making it easier to take action and build momentum.

For example, if your goal is to start an online store, break it down into tasks like researching your target market, creating a business plan, designing a website, and so on. By tackling these smaller tasks, you can make progress without feeling overwhelmed.

  1. Set realistic expectations: Unrealistic expectations can often lead to fear of failure. Understand that success doesn't happen overnight and that setbacks are a part of the journey. Set realistic goals and timelines, and celebrate small wins along the way. This will help you maintain motivation and keep moving forward.

  2. Surround yourself with support: Seek out mentors, join entrepreneurial communities, or connect with like-minded individuals who can provide guidance and support. Surrounding yourself with people who have faced similar challenges and overcome them can be incredibly motivating. They can offer advice, share their experiences, and provide encouragement when you need it most.

  3. Visualize success: Take some time to visualize your desired outcome and the positive impact your business can have. Create a vision board or write down your goals and aspirations. Visualizing success can help you stay focused, motivated, and committed to overcoming any obstacles that come your way.

  4. Start small and iterate: Instead of diving headfirst into your business idea, consider starting small and testing the waters. This approach allows you to validate your ideas, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments before fully committing. Starting small can help alleviate the fear of failure because the stakes are lower, and it gives you the opportunity to learn and grow gradually.

For example, if you want to start a clothing brand, consider launching with a limited collection or testing your designs with a small group of customers. This way, you can refine your products and business model based on real-world feedback, reducing the risk of failure.

  1. Learn from others' experiences: Research success stories of other entrepreneurs who have faced and overcome similar challenges. Read books, listen to podcasts, or attend conferences where successful entrepreneurs share their journeys. Learning from their experiences can provide valuable insights, inspiration, and a sense of reassurance that you are not alone in facing the fear of failure.

Remember, taking the first step is often the hardest part, but once you start, you will gain momentum and confidence along the way. Don't let the fear of failure hold you back from pursuing your dreams. Embrace it, learn from it, and use it as fuel to propel yourself towards success.

Failure is all part of it, just go for it and you’ll be fine, you can’t succeed without failing and learning what you did wrong. Just start small and go from there

Don't quit your job because it's going to take a long time to make money. That's just reality. I worked in full commission sales for 25 years, I built a handful of multimillion dollar companies while working for others. And I mean I took from napkin to the company was sold and did everything. I've now built my own company and we control the North American market the commercial truck parts that we sell and we're slowly taking over the entire global market.

Do the actual work of researching market conditions. That will tell you very specifically if you should begin. If it looks good, take the leap. Instead of your fear holding you back why not let it combine with real knowledge to become the motivation you seek? Also: what's there to be afraid of? Start small, don't spend your rent money on the business and have fun exploring entrepreneurship 🤷
