"This is a tough question to answer because SEO marketing agencies - as has been pointed out - can be expensive. However, they typically do work if you hire the right one. If you are looking for fast results, you won't find it. SEO takes time. But, if you do want to be recognized as an expert in your field or you want to gain more traffic to your blog/website, then it might be something to consider. The company I work for hires an SEO company to do some blogging for us, and we recently went from having less than a hundred views on our blog a day to over 200. And the day the article went big? We went from 5,000 a week to 30,000 over a few days. And that traffic is consistent. We still see people coming into our blog from that article. Granted, we aren't a ""small business"" but we still want and need to be found. Every business does. SEO is the avenue that will help you get found and can often bring in new customers for you - if it's done right!"
