Absolutely, as a mexican it was very fucking difficult to buy every ds version stupid ass nintedo pulled out to be able to play 2-3 games on it (due to games being expensive too), right now with the switch I try to buy only their origjnals and everything else on steam (including ace attorney, doom, skyrim, trials, etc, etc, etc), because on steam I can play in any pc / laptop I want, there's no restrictions per se and it's much cheaper

I think they are going to quit making games all together and make electric vehicles and open a chain of burger joints.

I feel like the Switch was an acceptable case of dropping Backwards Compatibility for a few reasons: The form factor of the console The fact that a Wii U was a failure The standardization of control schemes coming off the Wii/Wii U era which had like a dozen different controller options. With that in mind, there's no reason for the next system not to be backwards compatible with the Switch, because none of the above things apply anymore. The Switch is a major success, so there's a lot more of a userbase with significant game libraries to consider. Video game control schemes have also become pretty standardized across the board at this point, so that should make the jump pretty easy as well. The increasingly digital nature of the landscape could make for a seamless transition. Of course, it's Nintendo, so if they think they can get away with charging you to re-buy the same games you already own on the next hardware gen, they'll do it.

Nintendo has always been very good with back-compat. Wii U played Wii games. Wii played GC games. 3DS played DS games. DS played GBA games. GBA played GB/GBC games. The Switch didn't play Wii U games or 3DS games natively because it's a radically different system to both of those consoles, but if the next Nintendo console is similar to the Switch it will very likely have back-compat. Plus, if it didn't have back-compat, very few people would be buying the re-releases. The Wii U re-releases work so well because barely anyone owned a Wii U, so for the vast majority of people it's their first time buying and experiencing those games. The same cannot at all be said for the Switch.

I'm not the only one wanting backwards compatibility! But honestly I would doubt. Their main games are still 60$-70$+ They could simply do the remakes of those games so we spend more money on them again. Something id want if there was to happen the backwards compatibility, was that our digital purchases on the switch would be transferred automatically to the new console as soon as we log in there.

No backwards compatibility is definitely what I'm afraid of most. I'm a deals whore and always try to be sure I'm buying games on sale. Since theirs are never on sale I already feel like I'm overpaying. If this current console becomes like the Wii U in the next gen I will probably pass.

After the current switch has been out for another 2 or 3 years, they'll probably make some kind of switch 2 with backwards compatibility and better hardware n stuff. But knowing nintendo they're not gonna do any of that and do something completely different

I think the Wii was kind of a gimmick that worked. The problem was that there were dwindling returns by the end. Switch owners buy a much larger variety of games on average. Most Wii owners were extreme casuals who were OK with Wii bowling and Wii sports and didn't even go much further in the library. A lot of those people never even bought a system after that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the home/portable combination isn't really a gimmick at all. It's an intelligent way to play games. It's entirely dependent on the quality of the games being made and Nintendo will always have a huge first party advantage there. So they definitely felt the pressure to release another Wii after the first, but it was never on solid ground. It was a huge risk. A Switch 2 would not be.

Yeah. The last time they were crazy successful was with the Wii. They should have just followed it up with another Wi... wait.
