Comparing Dele Alli, an English professional footballer, with Johnny Manziel, an American former professional football player, is not a good comparison due to several reasons. While both athletes have achieved success in their respective sports, their backgrounds, playing styles, and overall careers differ significantly.
1. Background:
Dele Alli:
- Alli was born and raised in England and began his career in the English football system.
- He played for several English clubs, including Milton Keynes Dons and Tottenham Hotspur.
- Alli has represented the English national team in major tournaments like the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship.
Johnny Manziel:
- Manziel was born and raised in Texas, USA, and played college football for Texas A&M University.
- He won the Heisman Trophy in 2012, recognizing him as the best player in college football.
- Manziel had a short-lived professional career, playing for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL and later in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
2. Playing Style:
Dele Alli:
- Alli is a midfielder known for his versatility and technical skills.
- He is an excellent passer, has good vision on the field, and possesses goal-scoring abilities.
- Alli's playing style revolves around his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
Johnny Manziel:
- Manziel was a quarterback known for his improvisational skills and ability to extend plays.
- He was known for his agility, elusiveness, and ability to make plays with his feet.
- Manziel's playing style focused on his ability to create opportunities through his mobility and throwing accuracy.
3. Career Trajectories:
Dele Alli:
- Alli has had a successful career in English football, earning numerous individual and team accolades.
- He has won multiple domestic titles with Tottenham Hotspur and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.
- Alli has been a consistent performer and has represented England in major international tournaments.
Johnny Manziel:
- Manziel's professional career did not live up to the expectations set during his college years.
- He faced off-field issues, including legal troubles and concerns about his commitment to the sport.
- Manziel's NFL career was short-lived, and his CFL stint was also cut short due to a lack of performance and disciplinary issues.
In conclusion, Dele Alli and Johnny Manziel are two talented athletes, but their backgrounds, playing styles, and career trajectories are quite different. Alli has established himself as a consistent performer in English football, while Manziel's career was marred by off-field issues and a lack of success at the professional level. Therefore, comparing them is not a good comparison.

While true that Manziel partied too much to be a professional QB, I think it’s often overlooked that he had undiagnosed Bipolar Disorder which undoubtedly led to all the partying and highs and lows. Hard to be a professional at anything when your mental health is so unstable.

Hopkins should not be overlooked either; he would be a fantastic addition.

As others have mentioned, they are not comparable. Dele Alli rose from the third division to the Premier League and actually had great seasons early on in his career. He also had a tough childhood (sexual abuse, father abandoning him, alcoholic mother). Johnny Manziel came from a privileged background and he pissed away his career by partying.

Not comparable, really at all. I remember a lot of people thinking Manziel would bust at the NFL level. But no one would've guessed what has happened with Alli's career. He legitimately looked like a world class attacking forward, and then it's like he forgot his ability. Very odd.

Dele Alli had a tough unbringing as was sexually abused as a child. You can't compare them at all imo.
