Henry Cavill Takes on Time-Traveling Classic: The Highlander Reboot Sparks Franchise Hopes!

Henry Cavill's highly anticipated revival of Highlander is still in the pipeline, and the buzz surrounding it is nothing short of epic.

In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chad Stahelski, the director who has just wrapped up work on John Wick 4, provided reassurance that the Highlander project is indeed moving forward. Notably, he hinted that this venture might mark the beginning of a much larger cinematic journey.

Stahelski commented, "At this point, we've amassed some truly promising components. However, the challenge lies in the fundamental creed of 'there can only be one'; clearly, an indiscriminate slaughter isn't the way to go."

While the upcoming Highlander film has been in the making since 2021, it has been rather reticent on updates since its initial announcement. Yet, it appears that Stahelski is now enthusiastic about offering a glimpse into what lies ahead.

"For the first time, let me divulge that our narrative will reintroduce many familiar personas and concepts," he unveiled. "Yet, we've ingeniously woven in facets from all the television adaptations, aiming to craft a preliminary chronicle, a precursor to The Gathering. This will grant us ample space to nurture the franchise."

This revelation should certainly delight aficionados of Highlander, considering the TV series garnered significant acclaim within the franchise. Regrettably, the specifics of the plot remain concealed for now, leaving us uncertain whether Cavill will embody the iconic Connor MacLeod or potentially embody an entirely novel character, one not linked to the MacLeod lineage. (Although, to be fair, a Highlander rendition sans a MacLeod would be quite the departure.)

"I've been an ardent admirer of Highlander since my youth," Cavill disclosed on Instagram when news of the film broke. "From the 80s movies bedecked in Queen's grandeur to the television saga, which curiously featured an actor bearing a striking resemblance to one of my siblings. Armed with a penchant for swordsmanship and guided by the exceptional directorial prowess of Chad Stahelski, this is an unparalleled opportunity."

Uncertainty lingers on whether the original Highlander, Christopher Lambert, will make a comeback in the reboot. After all, he did grace the pilot episode of the beloved TV series. Nevertheless, Stahelski's update insinuates a conscious effort to steer clear of the unfortunate blunder that was Highlander 2. With its infamous 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, that can only bode well for the impending venture.
