What to check before buying used or refurbished electronics

Ask what refurbished means

Look for a clear description of testing, repair, grading and who performed the work. 'Refurbished' does not by itself guarantee a new battery, original parts or a manufacturer warranty.

Check security and ownership

For phones and computers, confirm activation locks are removed and that the device can be reset and updated. Business devices should not remain enrolled in another organisation's management system.

Evaluate condition and support

Check battery health where available, cosmetic condition, ports, charger inclusion, return terms and the actual warranty provider. Do not treat a used or refurbished offer as equivalent to a new offer solely because the model number matches.

Choose the offer you can assess

Source feeds do not always include condition or testing evidence. Read the native seller listing or retailer page for these details. These guides explain a comparison method; they are not claims that InVastor tested individual devices.
