Painting for Relaxation

There?s a reason bird-watching is all the rage?gazing upon some of nature?s most charming characters is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend time. But with January?s chill winds blowing, a stakeout in the woods might not be the thing to soothe your spirits. In this 90-minute class, you?ll learn to paint a canvas of birds and botanicals so you can commune with our feathered friends and your creative side without wearing snowboots. Art newbies, fear not: no experience is required, because you?ll be working with our Paint by Shadows Kit, which includes all the paint, brushes, and pre-printed canvases you?ll need (usually $45, it?s included in the price of this class). Instructor Jennifer Funnell will start with an introduction to the materials in your kit. Next, she?ll share the essentials of working with acrylic colors, including how to mix pigments to create new shades, fill in large areas, and add personal touches. Then you?re ready to brush away, with Jennifer on hand to answer questions as you go. Feel free to bring a comforting mug of herbal tea and light a fragrant candle for ambiance?you can even make a playlist of favorite tunes or nature sounds to listen to while you paint (with your mic muted, of course). An imaginative way to unwind after the holiday rush and commit to self-care in the new year, this class also makes a wonderful gift to a friend, family member, or couple. You?ll probably finish your masterpiece during the 90 minutes, but you may also want to leave time after the class to continue painting...and to make those relaxing feelings last.
