Philippe orginally came to Napa Valley with Christian Moueix to make Dominus. He learned winemaking and vineyard techniques from prestigious estates such as Haut Brion, Chittering Estate, Badio O Coltibuono,and of course the Moueix domains in Bordeaux and Dominus. His wife Cherie being a self-taught enologist gaining her wine knowledge from equally impressive estates such as Ridge Vineyards, Beaulieu and Silver Oak Cellars. Their combined science backgrounds and extensive experience in the industry make them a perfect team in their winemaking endeavors.The Melkas purchased the land for this vineyard in 2001 after searching for a location that would produce profound terroir based wines. Located in Knights Valley, ten acres are planted, two-thirds to red varietals and one third to white. Planting was done in stages by varietal starting in 2003.
