Domaine de la Fidelite 2023 La Montaloise Rose, Menetou-Salon

Grapes vines have been grown in the Menetou-Salon AOC since ancient times, but the AOC wasn't declared until 1959. Sitting west of Sancerre, the appellation is on a slope of ancient soil that was pushed up and exposed as the plates moved. The area was underwater in the Mesozoic Era, and created limestone sediments very rich in shells. There are two very specific types of soil: Kimmeridgian marls with small oyster fossils and limestone on softly rolling lands. Domaine de la Fidelite's vinyeards are planted in this 115 million year old Kimmeridgian limestone clay and marl. Antoine de la Farge's family domaine covers 12 hectares spread across several of the AOC's most historic plots including the famed 'Clos de Davet' which is cited in writings from the XIth century.
